CES “Consumer Electronics Show” is the world’s annual gathering and trade show. It’s held in January at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. It hosts presentations of new products and technologies in the consumer electronics industry.

CES 2019 will kick off in Las Vegas next week and Apple doesn’t traditionally take part in it, unlike all of its competitors. However, Apple overshadowed this year’s event.

Apple bought a huge billboard on the side of a hotel, that has a view of the Las Vegas Convention Center, where the event takes place.

The billboard takes up 13 floors of the hotel and states: “What happens on your iPhone, stays on your iPhone” with the URL to Apple’s privacy website.

It is a direct message and a clear shot to its rivals Google and Amazon, who are having a big show this year at the event with lots of products.
Apple is trying to highlight its privacy settings. They are also addressing a message to the whole world, that they are not going to sell your data, while Amazon and Google use your data to try to sell you stuff.

It is an excellent strategy to be present in an event where you don’t take part and also to diss your competitors.
